UGent was recognised as “success story” by the EC and UGent obtained the ECTS label from the very beginning. It is one of the most active universities in Erasmus Mundus and other international collaboration in education and research. The institutional integrated policy plan for internationalisation creates a framework for bottom-up initiatives in a setting of quality control and transparency, and sets the context for strategic partnerships. The International Relations Office provides guidance. Innovative teaching is a key objective, with a focus on societal impact and activation of students.

It is closely linked to IDC and fablabs of UGent. Since its creation in 2011 dare to venture has led to the creation of several start up companies, thus creating almost 400 jobs today.
Established in 1029 the Centre for Textile Science and Engineering CTSE has a staff of staff with international and multidisciplinary background. Major research fields are e.g. nanofibers, smart textiles, (modelling of) advanced textile processes and structures. There has always been a good link with the textile industry in Belgium and abroad and the department takes the lead in a world network for textile universities AUTEX. CTSE has been coordinating a European master in textile engineering since about 20 years. It is also one of the initiators of the UGent design factory and the implementation of cocreation based learning at university level.
The industrial design centre IDC is very active in the field of user centred design and citizen involvement. Co creation is one of the design methodologies addressed, targeting e.g. community service learning. Several of their students have started their own business, some with support of Dare to Venture.

Amongst their latest digital tools is an interdisciplinary authoring system called 'ChoiCo' (Choices with Consequences) for the design and play of serious digital games based on an educational paradigm of student engagement with complex socio-scientific issues. Some original games have been designed and produced in a range of issues so far. In this project ChoiCo will be used to support student co-creation of such games on the issue of wearables and urban sustainability. ChoiCo is a web-based open educational resource freely and ubiquitously accessible, translatable in any language and allows for individual construction and versioning of games which can subsequently be shared, played, redesigned and discussed.
